Jitsu is a martial art based on the traditional styles of Jiu Jitsu that originated and developed in medieval Japan. The core of the art comprises a system of throws, joint locks and strikes. Based on the principle of using an aggressor’s energy to their own disadvantage through the use of balance, movement, timing and technique, jujitsu skills can be used to counter aggressive situations ranging from unwanted harassment to armed physical assault.
The Jitsu Foundation is the largest single-style jiujitsu organisation in Britain with more than one hundred clubs in the UK teaching the modern and unique Shorinji Kan system of Ju Jitsu. Currently in excess of 3000 jitsuka are in active training and there are several hundred instructors - including specialists in modern sport forms, traditional forms, weapons training, First Aid and Shiatsu.
Twice a year, 800-1000 jitsuka meet to compete and train in central England forming probably the largest martial arts events in the country, if not Europe. Through a constant process of examination, development and improvement, the Jitsu Foundation has adapted, and continues to adapt, long standing jiu jitsu techniques into a powerful and modern self defence system effective in today’s world.
